How often should smoke detectors be replaced?

From NFPA 72. (National Fire Protection Association)

“10.4.7 Replacement of Smoke Alarms in One- and Two Family Dwellings. Unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer's published instructions, single- and multiple-stations smoke alarms installed in one- and two-family dwellings shall be replaced when they fail to respond to operability tests, but shall not remain in service longer than 10 years from the date of manufacture.”

Replace and upgrade your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms every ten years.

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms must be replaced within the specified lifetime of the product, usually 5 to 10 years after the date of manufacture. Check the back of your alarm for the date of manufacturing. Aging smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms do not operate efficiently and often are the source for nuisance alarms.

The following should be the model numbers of the detectors. Please check that your detectors are the same numbers before ordering. These are available from ACE, Lowe’s and Home Depot.

First Alert AC Hardwired Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector and Battery back-up: Model #: SC9120B

First Alert AC Hardwired 120-Volt Smoke Detector and Battery back-up: Model #: 9120BP

Garage...First Alert AC Hardwired 120-Volt and Battery back-up Rate of Rise Heat Alarm: Model #HD6135FB

If you are unable to replace these items yourself, please consider consulting a licensed electrician or your burglar alarm company.

BULK WASTE SCHEDULE AND COLLECTION

Bulk waste will be collected the first TUESDAY of each month except December.

HOUSEHOLD BULK WASTE: carpets, furniture, appliances and other large household items are collected on the FIRST TUESDAY  of each month.  ITEMS MUST BE at THE CURB BY 6:00 A.M. THE DAY OF COLLECTION. Items may not be placed out to the curb before  the day of collection or a violation notice will be issued. All doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers.  Only two bulk items may be placed to the curb each month of collection.
Flush Wisely:  Since COVID-19, we are all using more antibacterial wipes and cleaning supplies than usual. Please be aware that disinfecting wipes, baby wipes, paper towelsand paper napkins are not flushable and should be thrown in the trash after being used. Even those products marked “flushable” are not. Flushing these items down the toilet can clog sewer pumps and cause sewer mains to back-up. So, please do not flush cleansing wipes, paper towels or napkins down the toilet.

DO NOT FLUSH dental floss—it tied up our sewage plant last summer!
